Were you thinking about buying a PS3 yesterday? Good thing you didn’t pick one up, because Sony announced from Gamescom in Germany today that all current PS3 units are now $50 less.

The drop affects three bundles that are currently being sold in stores. The $299 160 GB “core” bundle, the $349 320 GB console, and the $399 320 GB PS3 Move Bundle are all now $249, $299 and $349, respectively.

The drop comes as little surprise, as the current console generation, the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, have all been on the market for 5-6 years with no new consoles on the horizon for Sony or Microsoft. This is the longest console generation to date.

The PS3 is now competing with the Wii, which runs at $149, and the Xbox 360, which runs between $199-$399.

Am I the only one that thinks it’s odd that the PSP Go, although it’s been part of an ongoing sale for a few weeks at $159, still has an MSRP of $199?

What say you, gamers? Anyone considering picking up a PS3 now that it isn’t as expensive?
