After Robin first let us know that the unveiling of the first teaser trailer for Teen Titans Go! To The Movies was imminent just yesterday, Warner Bros. have made good on that promise by timely dropping said video online. And, to be honest, it’s the very definition of “teaser trailer.”
We say that because, while footage such as a giant-sized villain letting out a seemingly never-ending fart probably is in the film itself, the Boy Wonder and his cohorts spend much time talking to the viewer in an effort to hype up their upcoming flick.
As was to be expected, the humor is very self-aware and tongue-in-cheek, with them not being afraid to address that Wonder Woman is arguably the hottest property DC has on film at the moment, thus the lot of them don her iconic costume. In addition to that, some fun is also had at the expense of Aquaman.
Suffice it to say, we anticipate that the feature film be a larger scale continuation of the adventures seen on the Cartoon Network animated series on which it’s based. As a successor to the original Teen Titans show, the newer incarnation is much more light-hearted, as its 11-minute episodes focus more on whimsy, song and other things that have proven to be highly divisive amongst DC fans. Still, it’s found a rather devoted viewing audience, especially with the younger crowd.
Right now, plot details remain scarce, but we at least have this synopsis to go on:
It seems to the Teens that all the major superheroes out there are starring in their own movies— everyone but the Teen Titans, that is! But de facto leader Robin is determined to remedy the situation, and be seen as a star instead of a sidekick. If only they could get the hottest Hollywood film director to notice them. With a few madcap ideas and a song in their heart, the Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town, certain to pull off their dream. But when the group is radically misdirected by a seriously super villain and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry. The team finds their friendship and their fighting spirit failing, putting the very fate of the Teen Titans themselves on the line!
Teen Titans Go! To The Movies is set to open in theaters on July 27, 2018, and will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Peter Rida Michail, from a screenplay by Michael Jelenic and Horvath. Scott Menville (Robin), Greg Cipes (Beast Boy), Khary Payton (Cyborg), Tara Strong (Raven) and Hynden Walch (Starfire) star.
