Both Ioan Gruffudd and Miles Teller have tried (and arguably failed) to embody the whip-smart Reed Richards over the years, but a new dawn is coming.
Thanks to Disney’s monumental acquisition of 20th Century Fox and its entertainment assets, one that will have far-reaching implications for the entertainment industry at large, Kevin Feige and Co. now have the chance to reboot the Fantastic Four and incorporate Marvel’s First Family into the MCU. And how exciting is that?
Granted, after three forgettable superhero movies in only 10 years, there are signs of franchise fatigue beginning to seep into the Fantastic Four brand, so Marvel Studios will need to capture lightning in a bottle twice (read: Spider-Man: Homecoming) if it’s to make the First Family relevant once more.
And in the eyes of one talented Redditor, John Krasinski is the perfect actor to headline a new rendition of the Fantastic Four, as evidenced by this concept art:
Krasinksi’s name has popped up on the Marvel wishlist before, of course; eight years ago, he became one of the finalists for Captain America: The First Avenger, and ultimately lost out to Chris Evans who, incidentally, also has a history with Fantastic Four, having brought Johnny Storm/The Human Torch to life on two separate occasions.
Had the stars aligned for John Krasinski, it would’ve changed the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it, which is currently bracing for the back-to-back launch of Infinity War and Avengers 4 – and Black Panther, of course, lest we forget about Ryan Coogler’s star-studded adventure.
It’ll enter the MCU very soon – February 16th for those in the States – which isn’t something that can be said about the Fantastic Four. The historic, Earth-shaking merger between Disney and Fox will likely take another three or four years to fully consummate, so don’t expect any signs of a potential crossover until at least 2020.
