In case you missed today’s announcement, Deadpool 2 will be with us earlier than expected – two whole weeks early, as Fox’s R-rated sequel has officially relocated to May 18th. That’s good news for fans of the Merc, then, but it comes at the expense of The New Mutants and Gambit, both of which have slipped into 2019. Hell, the latter is once again in search of a director after losing Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) to scheduling conflicts.

However that may be, David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 has become the priority for 20th Century Fox, who will soon be competing against Marvel (Avengers: Infinity War) and Lucasfilm (Solo: A Star Wars Story) for box office supremacy. On the ground level, though, is Ryan Reynolds, and at least based on the actor’s latest Tweet, he’s prepped and ready for the Merc’s second coming – even if it’s arriving ahead of schedule.

The new photo shared by the actor came bearing the caption: “May 18th. #MaximumEffort” – and you can check it out in the gallery down below along with a few others that’ve surfaced recently.

Posting top-down pictures of Wade Wilson’s twin katanas has become something of a signature for Ryan Reynolds, who shared similar photos back when Deadpool 2 wrapped principal photography. Nevertheless, this is an admittedly cool close-up of Wade’s weapons of choice, Bea and Arthur. Why have they been christened as so? We’ll leave that one to Reynolds himself.

In light of this big shake-up, Deadpool 2 will be the first to tumble off Fox’s production slate, as The New Mutants, Josh Boone’s horror-oriented spinoff, has been bumped all the way back to February 22nd, 2019. That’s only a few months short of Gambit (June 7th, 2019), so we’re now a little concerned about Boone’s mutant tentpole. Stay tuned for more.
