There Are Currently No Plans To Integrate The X-Men Into Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Writer-director James Gunn has gone on record to clarify that, no, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won't be the X-Men's entry point into the MCU.

Marvel’s Fantastic Four and the famous X-Men are homeward bound, that much we know, but when can we expect to see the cinematic fruits of Disney’s landmark merger?

Late last year, the Mouse House officially made its move to acquire 20th Century Fox in a deal said to be worth upwards of $52.4 billion. It’ll likely take another two-to-three years to fully consummate, but when it does, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will get a whole lot bigger – and we’re talking about superhero crossovers the likes of which we’ve never seen before.

And though Disney is yet to disclose the finer details of its acquisition, comic book fans are already beginning to formulate their own ideas for the seemingly inevitable Avengers vs. X-Men event movie – not to mention recasting the Fantastic Four. Exciting though that may be, writer-director James Gunn has now clarified that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t be angled as the X-Men’s entry point into the MCU.

Per Twitter (via Heroic Hollywood), the two-time Marvel director stressed that he has no plans to integrate the X-Men into his third Guardians movie, and ruled out any potential mutant cameo – yes, even Kitty Pryde appears to be off the table.

Also of note, it appears the actual story of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been largely unaffected by Disney’s recent business, which, in truth, isn’t all that surprising given Gunn has been drafting up a screenplay since as far back as May of 2017.

It’s still on course for 2020, too, meaning Gunn’s cosmic threequel will help shape the landscape in a post-Avengers 4 world. Expect the latter to bring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to their knees on May 3rd, 2019.
