Avengers: Infinity War Will Feature At Least 76 Characters

Barring some unforeseen hiccup, Avengers: Infinity War is about to become a global box office phenomenon. It is, after all, building on a superpowered legacy stretching all the way back to 2008, when Jon Favreau and the fresh-faced Robert Downey Jr. defied all odds and transformed Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man) into a household name. A full ten years have passed since that historic feat, and in that time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ballooned into an industry of its own, replete with A-list stars, a seasoned architect in Kevin Feige and many, many characters.

Yes, if there’s one element of Infinity War that continues to fuel debate online, it’s who exactly we can expect to see in the film. At this point, it really does sound like everyone who’s still breathing in the MCU will be involved, and if Chris Hemsworth, who plays the mighty God of Thunder, is to be believed, there will be at least 76 characters showing up in the event movie.

Speaking to The Toronto Sun to promote his new film 12 Strong, the actor revealed the following:

“This is one of the biggest things in film history and to be a part of it was just incredible. I think what these characters are about to face — with Thanos — there’s been nothing quite like it. There are 76 cast members or something like that. I think what people are going to be excited about is what I was excited about and that’s Thor meeting the Guardians and Iron Man meeting Doctor Strange.”

Continuing on, he expressed his admiration for Joe and Anthony Russo, who now have the difficult task of putting everything together in post-production.

“They’re going to be massive. I finished literally two days ago and I looked at (directors) Joe and Anthony (Russo) and said, ‘I don’t know how you guys have gotten this far and I don’t know how you’re going to hold it together and complete this thing, but my hat’s off to you.’”

It goes without saying that not all 76 characters will have a sizeable role. In fact, some of them may only appear for a scene or two. But still, this is a tremendously large cast we’re talking about and from what we know so far, it sounds like a good chunk of them will be given something important to do in the fight against Thanos and his Black Order. In other words, expect this to be a massive movie in every sense of the word, one that’s not too far off now.

Yes, on May 4th, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be forever changed when Iron Man, Cap, Thor and the rest of the gang charge into theaters for Avengers: Infinity War. The fight against the Mad Titan won’t end there, though, as Avengers 4 will follow on May 3rd, 2019, and act as the conclusive chapter to Phase 3 of the MCU.
