Evidence Mounts That The Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer Is Imminent

Now that the IMAX cut is reportedly in the can, Disney and Lucasfilm appear all set to unleash the first Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer any day now

January is so often a quiet month for the film industry. With little in the way of new releases, Hollywood typically focuses its collective energy on the awards circuit, beginning with the Golden Globes.

That radio silence is coming to an end, though, what with major studios now beginning to drum up excitement for 2018’s biggest names. From Mission: Impossible – Fallout to Avengers: Infinity War and everything in between, the next 10-12 months are shaping up to be very, very special, and that’s before we even consider the latest installment in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars saga.

It is, in essence, another prequel, but don’t let that label put you off. For in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Ron Howard and Co. plan to explore the early years of the galaxy’s greatest scoundrel, as he weaves his way through a “dark and dangerous” criminal underworld, only to encounter a loveable Wookiee (Chewbacca) and a smooth-talking gambler in Lando Calrissian, the latter of whom will be played by Donald Glover.

On paper, it has all the makings of a rip-roaring adventure, so why haven’t we seen some tangible footage? Indeed, many assumed it would arrive just before The Last Jedi back in December, but with a Super Bowl on the horizon, we now have more evidence to suggest that Lucasfilm is holding fire until sporting’s biggest event.

As reported by ComicBook.com, film editor Vahn Gharakhani recently announced that an IMAX cut of Solo‘s trailer is now complete, indicating that it could be with us sooner than expected. For the record, DMR stands for digital media remastering.

Not unlike Rogue One before it, Solo: A Star Wars Story is emerging from a storied spell in front of the cameras, though it remains to be seen whether Ron Howard’s anthology pic can silence the naysayers when it arrives in theaters on May 25th. As always, watch this space for more.
