Alien vs. Predator, Freddy vs. Jason, Godzilla vs. Kong, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice…the list of big-name movie crossovers is as long as it is diverse, but the chances of Jigsaw crossing paths with another horror mascot are slim to none.
That’s according to the man behind the killer, Tobin Bell, who sat down with ComicBook.com to discuss John Kramer’s second coming. It wasn’t exactly an instant classic, but Michael and Peter Spierig’s Jigsaw was still a fairly competent expansion of the Saw saga, and though Lionsgate is said to be kicking around ideas for a bona fide follow-up, the idea of Kramer wandering over into another franchise – be it Friday the 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street – is ostensibly off the table.

This question comes up because people are fascinated by Freddy Krueger and, you know, the chainsaw guy, and I’m not terribly familiar with their backstories, or with those franchises, so I don’t know where the connection might be. But, are people fascinated with that kind of thing?
And to his credit, Bell isn’t all that fussed on the whole ‘icon’ craze to begin with:
The first time, frankly, somebody said that to me, which was years ago, I didn’t know what the f-ck they were talking about. ‘What do you mean?’ I’m an actor, I create characters. That whole icon thing is created in the minds of viewers, that’s not my job. And so, when somebody said that I was like, ‘Really? Did you say icon?’
It doesn’t really fascinate me or interest me to try to put [John Kramer] up against Hannibal Lecter. Although it comes up all the time, people ask that question a lot. ‘Geez, wouldn’t it be cool if…?’ I got my hands full just trying to make John Kramer interesting as a human being. And the rest, that’s in somebody else’s hands.
Following a full seven years of silence, John Kramer staged his triumphant (and terrifying!) return last October, though the critics weren’t particularly kind to Michael and Peter Spierig’s horror revival. Nevertheless, even after Saw: The Final Chapter and Jigsaw, Lionsgate is reportedly keen on jump-starting another entry in the cult series. Where will it end?!
