Universal Pictures may have given up on The Dark Tower, but director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer have not. In an interview with the New York Post, Grazer said they are currently “trying to get outside financing to make it, and distribute it through a major [studio].” Javier Bardem is still attached to the role of Roland Deschain as well.

Even though the two are indicating the film is not dead yet, production is on hiatus until next year. Howard is currently working on Rush, a film about Formula One racer Niki Lauda. Grazer said the earliest production may start is June of next year.

The Dark Tower is scheduled to be turned into three films with a television series continuing the story between each installment. There is no word on if this is still the proposed pitch for the adaptation but we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
