Emily VanCamp Suggests Sharon Carter Won’t Be In Avengers: Infinity War

As the culmination of everything in the franchise up to this point, Avengers: Infinity War is set to feature just about every major figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Everyone from the Avengers to the Guardians to a multitude of supporting characters will appear in the event movie. However, it looks like at least one prominent recurring ally of the heroes won't be showing their face.

While promoting her new TV show The Resident in a lengthy interview with BUILD, Emily VanCamp was naturally quizzed on her involvement in Infinity War. The actress remained mostly tight-lipped, but her comments do suggest that there won’t be a place for her character, Sharon Carter AKA Agent 13, in the film.

“I mean listen, it’s hard to fit Sharon into that. She’s really in Cap’s world, you know what I mean? So, I mean, I can’t say anything about anything, but I will say that you know she sort of fits into the Captain America movies, that’s where her sort of story lies, but I can tell you it’s going to be like an epic two-parter. From everything that I hear ya know, it’s going to be amazing, and the Russo Brothers are phenomenal. I mean they can do no wrong really, so I’m excited to see it.”

VanCamp debuted in the MCU in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as a neighbor of Steve Rogers who was revealed to be a crack S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. 2016’s Captain America: Civil War then revealed that Sharon was the niece of Steve’s lost love Peggy Carter. The movie also teased a brewing romance between Cap and Agent 13, which is kind of weird when you think about it.

Sharon is a major character in the comics – much more prominent than Peggy is – but, though VanCamp’s memorable in the role, the screen version hasn’t made a huge impact so far. Given that, it makes sense if she doesn’t turn up in Infinity War. On the other hand, the actress could just be playing down talk of her appearing in the movie so as to keep things as mum as possible. At this point, we basically can’t trust anything we hear.

One way or another, all will finally be revealed when Avengers: Infinity War lands in theaters on May 4th.
