David Tennant Brings Back The Tenth Doctor For Special Doctor Who Video

As Doctor Who fans know, David Tennant played the Tenth Doctor - one of the most popular incarnations of the Time Lord ever - from 2005 to 2010. He then picked up the sonic screwdriver again for the 50th anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor." But it turns out that there was another time Tennant returned to the role, too, that we never knew about. Until now, that is.

Back in 2013, Tennant teamed up with his wife Georgia Moffett to film a special home video as a present to their friend Gary Russell, a Doctor Who writer who was emigrating to Australia. The hilarious short has now made its way online, courtesy of the actress – who herself is a major figure in Who lore – and sees Tennant not only in character but also in full costume as the Tenth Doctor, parodying his own performance. He even references a proper plot point from the show.

Give it a watch below:

This is a great little find and a welcome extra bit of the Tenth Doctor that we never knew existed. It’s also fun to think that David and Georgia are still willing to act out joke-y Doctor Who scenes for their friends. You would think the pair had enough Who in their lives already.

For those who don’t know, the Tennants met when Georgia guest starred on Who as the Doctor’s daughter, Jenny. This was itself a very meta casting decision, as Georgia is the real-life daughter of Fifth Doctor Peter Davison. Who it just so happens was David’s childhood idol. And is now his father-in-law. And you thought the Doctor and River Song’s romance was confusing…

Fans have often called for Georgia to return to Doctor Who, but the actress has never been back since her one-off guest spot in 2008. However, this year will see Jenny return in her own audio drama spinoff from Big Finish Productions – who had previously coaxed Tennant back into the saddle as well.

Doctor Who season 11, meanwhile, airs on the BBC this autumn.
