Suicide Squad 2 Supposedly A “Big Priority” For Warner Bros.

Joel Kinnaman says Suicide Squad 2 is on the fast-track over at Warner Bros., and it'll seemingly right the wrongs of its predecessor.

For a film that was bursting at the seams with buzzworthy potential, Suicide Squad failed to become more than the sum of its parts.

Whether it’s the questionable CGI or convoluted script – to his credit, David Ayer has since lamented his decision to shun Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime – Warner’s anti-hero spinoff was quickly written off as a waste of potential. But there’s still hope for Task Force X, and according to Joel Kinnaman, it won’t be much longer before DC’s greatest villains are summoned onto the big screen once more.

While promoting his Netflix original series Altered Carbon (available to stream from today, February 2nd), Kinnaman sat down with Collider to discuss Suicide Squad 2, which is supposedly a “big priority” for the suits at Warner Bros.:

I just know that they are working intensely on it. I know it’s a big priority at Warner Bros., but it’s an equally big priority to get it right. We all felt that we had lightning in a bottle, in a way, and it partly got away from us, a little bit. It’s really important to harness everything that was great about it, and then fix what didn’t really work. So, I know they’re working on it, and we’ll see. I’m very excited to read something, but I don’t have any new information.

If nothing else, Kinnaman’s comments stand as a hopeful reminder that Warner Bros. is taking the necessary steps to ensure Suicide Squad 2 avoids the sins of the past.

Having signed on to helm Gotham City Sirens, David Ayer is no longer in the driving seat for the villainous spinoff, and has instead passed on the torch to DCEU newcomer Gavin O’Connor. He’ll seemingly get the cameras rolling later this year ahead of an expected release in 2019.

Should that hold true, Suicide Squad 2 will be rubbing shoulders with Shazam! and Wonder Woman 2, and we’ll be bringing you all the latest as more information comes to light.
