Nathan Summers reports for duty in the first, full-length and profanity-filled trailer for Deadpool 2. But there’s a twist.

After about 30 seconds of raw footage, which sees Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) narrate Cable’s harrowing past – the time-traveling bandit carries around a stuffed teddy bear to remind him of his daughter, Hope – the teaser smashes the fourth wall and, in doing so, even manages to poke fun at Justice League. No one is safe from the Merc’s sharp tongue, it seems.

From there, a fully-costumed Ryan Reynolds spends about 60 seconds directing his own fleet of action figures, which plays out like a warped version of Pixar’s Toy Story. Stick around, though, as Wade’s shenanigans end around the 1:20 mark to thrust viewers back into the thick of the action. And make no mistake, this bleak first look at Cable strutting his stuff is heavy on action and light on subtlety.

Much like the sequel’s initial teaser, which was hidden within the Merc’s tribute to Bob Ross, the remaining footage is a rapid-fire smorgasbord of memorable scenes – including new looks at Weasel, a souped-up Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Vanessa/Copycat) and Dopinder, Wade’s taxi driver and unlikely ally.

Here’s a reminder of that synopsis, which is, ahem, pretty revealing:

After surviving a near-fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste.

Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

“Oh, I’m Cable. I come from the future and I like blowing shit up.” Expect 20th Century Fox and David Leitch (John Wick: Chapter 2) to deliver another slice of frenzied comic book action when the untitled Deadpool 2 opens on May 18th.

That’s just two weeks after Josh Brolin tends to villain duties on another superhero blockbuster (Infinity War), so it’s shaping up to be a pretty wild month for the 49-year-old star. Stay tuned for more.
