Deadpool 2 Meet Cable Trailer

Deadpool Creator Says The Sequel Is Like James Cameron’s Aliens

Even with 2018 being packed with blockbusters - superhero and otherwise - it's probably safe to say that Deadpool 2 is likely among those that are most anticipated. I mean, not only is it following in the footsteps of its predecessor, which just so happened to be the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time, but it also includes the long awaited live action debuts of Cable and Domino, two cult favorites in the comic book community.

Even with 2018 being packed with blockbusters – superhero and otherwise – it’s probably safe to say that Deadpool 2 is likely among those that are most anticipated. I mean, not only is it following in the footsteps of its predecessor, which just so happened to be the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time, but it also includes the long awaited live action debuts of Cable and Domino, two cult favorites in the comic book community.

That being said, it was more than pleasing to see the former featured heavily in the first full trailer that dropped earlier today. Aside from having a laugh at the expense of a certain CGI mustache fiasco that occurred recently, we got a fair idea of how the straight-faced Cable will play off the irreverent Wade Wilson – and it’s thus far proven to be pretty freaking entertaining.

But if creator Rob Liefeld is to be believed, it won’t only be the humor that’s going to satisfy us in Deadpool 2, it’ll be the action as well. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview, the comic book writer compared the upcoming sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens, in that it’s going to be a lot bigger than what came before.

Deadpool was Alien. It’s brilliant. It completely works. It’s a masterpiece. Deadpool 2 is Aliens. It’s when James Cameron came in and said, ‘OK you want me to do this? We’re going to make it bigger, put in loads more action.’

Bold words, sure, but from everything we’ve seen of the film so far, there’s no reason to doubt Liefeld. It’s pretty clear that the team is going all out for the sequel and with a budget that’s at least double, if not triple what the original had, it only makes sense that the action is being ramped up, with set pieces that will surely be significantly larger than the first outing. Does that necessarily mean it’ll be a better movie? No, but at this point, we’re feeling fairly confident that Reynolds and co. will deliver.

Expect 20th Century Fox and David Leitch (John Wick: Chapter 2) to bring to theaters another slice of frenzied comic book action when the untitled Deadpool 2 opens on May 18th. That’s just two weeks after Josh Brolin tends to villain duties on another superhero blockbuster (Infinity War), so it’s shaping up to be a pretty wild month for the 49-year-old star.
