Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War

Here’s Another Look At Thanos’ Full Armor In Avengers: Infinity War

Will the Mad Titan don a suit of armor in Avengers: Infinity War? That's one of the many big questions surrounding the pic right now, as we inch closer and closer to its May 4th release.

Will the Mad Titan don a suit of armor in Avengers: Infinity War? That’s one of the many big questions surrounding the pic right now, as we inch closer and closer to its May 4th release. While Thanos is often seen decked out in his signature suit both in the comics and in the various appearances he’s made on screen so far, we’ve been told a few times now that he’ll be ditching it for Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming event movie.

On the prowl for all six Infinity Stones – word is he’s aiming to bring balance back to the universe, presumably at the expense of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – Thanos is not to be trifled with. That much we know, but what’s also interesting is that back in the summer, during San Diego Comic-Con, Joe Russo hinted at a more stripped-back version of the powerful purple warlord, one who doesn’t need any protection.

Speaking to IGN, the director said the following:

“[Thanos] has a more casual approach in this film, and it’s very philosophical for him. It’s part of his character definition. It’s a spiritual journey for him to collect the Stones, and one with which he doesn’t need armor. Once he starts acquiring the Stones, he doesn’t need armor in the same way he did when he was a war lord. It’s a very symbolic costume.”

While we don’t doubt what Russo is saying here, merchandise continues to flood the web and it all seems to show Thanos fully suited up. Case in point: down in the gallery below you’ll find a new action figure that once again, has the big bad in his traditional armor. We’ve included the toy that surfaced earlier this week as well, which also sees the Mad Titan wearing some protective gear.

Having Thanos’ ego be so great that he believes he doesn’t need his armour when he has possession of the Infinity Stones, as Russo says, is a neat idea, and it goes some way to presenting him as a massively powerful and confident foe for Earth’s the Galaxy’s Mightiest Heroes. It is a big change from the comics, though, and again, we keep seeing merchandise that shows him wearing his traditional suit, so who knows?

Of course, toys and action figures have been wrong many times in the past, and that could be the case here, too. After all, the Avengers obviously won’t be taking down Thanos using flying cars, as seen on the box in the photo up above. But still, this is a piece of Infinity War tie-in merch and again, it’s not the only one that’s depicted the character wearing armor, which leads us to believe that he’ll have it on for at least part of the film.

One way or another, though, we’ll find out soon enough, as Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4th.
