Universal Slates Jurassic World 3 For Summer 2021

The third and presumably final chapter in Universal's rebooted trilogy, Jurassic world 3, will be with us in the summer of 2021 as expected.

Though we’re still a full four months out from the release of Fallen Kingdom, Universal has gone ahead and announced Jurassic World 3 for release on June 11th, 2021.

It’s the third and presumably final chapter in the studio’s rebooted saga, and it has Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising) on script duties. She’ll be working from a treatment penned by Derek Connolly and Jurassic World‘s Colin Trevorrow, who was once attached to helm Star Wars: Episode IX for Disney before ultimately handed over the keys to J.J. Abrams (The Force Awakens) due to creative differences.

However that may be, Trevorrow continues to be a major player in the Jurassic World franchise, and he summarized today’s somewhat predictable announcement as so:

It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to keep our storytelling fresh and alive. I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty J.A. has brought to Fallen Kingdom, and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy.

Jurassic World 3

There’s currently no mention of a director for the so-far untitled Jurassic World 3, which tells us that Juan Antonio Bayona (Fallen Kingdom) is yet to make a decision about his potential future – or lack thereof – in Universal’s blockbuster franchise.

Should Bayona’s 2018 sequel prove to be a hit among critics, we imagine the Powers That Be will be pretty keen to keep a hold of the horror maestro, who originally cut his teeth on The Orphanage and The Impossible. It’s a cinematic résumé that has evidently informed the tone and style of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, given the movie’s horror/thriller tendencies. It’ll also feature a dino hybrid that would leave even the mighty Indominus Rex quaking in its boots.

And we can expect the so-called Indoraptor to claw its way onto screens this summer via Fallen Kingdom. Beyond that, Jurassic World 3 will put a bow on Universal’s dino saga – for now, at least – on June 11th, 2021.
