David Gordon Green’s Halloween sequel is officially in the can.
After a relatively brief spell in front of the cameras, during which time Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie Strode) shared scores of set photos, filming on 2018’s Halloween sequel has officially wrapped, and the folks over at Halloween Daily News (h/t Bloody Disgusting) caught up with Nick Castle to discuss his return as Michael Myers/The Shape after all these years.
He won’t be playing the character alone, of course, as stunt performer James Jude Courtney has also been cast as Myers, and will no doubt bring a sense of physicality to the iconic, supernatural role later this year. But when it comes to Halloween, in particular, Castle believes the upcoming sequel is a lot like the original classic.
It’s very neighborhood-centric, you know, like the first one. It feels a lot like [the first film]. There are a lot of things coinciding [in the new film] that feel like clever ways to introduce a kind of déjà vu of the first one, without feeling like it’s being copied. The script had some very clever people working on it.
Myers continued:
Especially for this movie, that has such a loving fan base, you first and foremost want to honor that, as a fellow filmmaker, and you certainly don’t want to thumb your nose at it, because that’s just going to come back and bite you in the ass. They were very clear on wanting to find the tone that was in the first one. It was the first thing out of their mouths really: ‘We want to do it like John did it.’
Finally, Castle drew attention to the Strode family, and how all three generations – namely Laurie (Curtis), Karen (Judy Greer) and Allyson (Andi Matichak) – will bring something different to the table.
What I like about this is they’ve got some really good young actors. They fleshed out their roles. They fleshed out the relationship of Jamie’s character with her daughter and her granddaughter, so you’ve got that whole generational thing going.
It’s official: Halloween haunts Haddonfield on October 19th.
