James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 To Begin Filming Early 2019

A new report compiled by That Hashtag Show suggests James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is due to begin filming in the early stages of 2019.

Not one to rest on his laurels, writer-director James Gunn is already hard at work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Tentatively slated for a release in 2020 (May 1st, perhaps?), the cosmic threequel has remained under lockdown ever since it was first announced – lest the galaxy’s greatest A-holes detract from Infinity War and Avengers 4, two films in which they’ll share the screen with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

But once the dust settles from the Avengers’ colossal dust-up with Thanos and his scheming Black Order, Marvel Studios will start to bring Phase 4 into focus – beginning with Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. It’s the only other MCU movie that we know will arrive in 2020, as Marvel has reserved a third release date for November of that same year.

The jury’s still out on that one, but new intel uncovered by That Hashtag Show has revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is gearing up for a production start in early 2019, when Atlanta will once again be used as its central hub.

With one or two exceptions, Atlanta has truly become Marvel’s home base over the past few years, so it’s not all that surprising to hear that Gunn’s third Guardians film plans to set up shop in the Georgian capital. Plot details are also few and far between, unless you count the fact that James Gunn intends to serve up another old-school blockbuster in two years’ time.

And though he was initially teased at the tail-end of Vol. 2, it seems Adam Warlock isn’t necessarily a shoo-in for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Either that, or Gunn is playing coy about the fan-favorite superhero in an attempt to combat spoilers.
