Insidious Chapter 2

Blumhouse Moving Forward With Insidious 5

Insidious is without a doubt one of the most wildly successful horror franchises of the modern era, with the four films in the series raking in an impressive $543 million at the global box office. While that may not seem like a huge number, it's important to remember that these movies are made for only about $5-10 million, meaning they're incredibly profitable.

In fact, the latest entry, Insidious: The Last Key, took in a healthy $164.4 million the other month, making it the highest grossing entry in the franchise and ensuring that this won’t be the last we see of it. Yup, that’s right, Blumhouse is planning to move forward with an Insidious 5, according to Bloody-Disgusting. Furthermore, it probably won’t be a prequel like the last one, though further details on what to expect are scarce.

While some of you may be happy to hear another installment in the series is being pushed into production, we just hope that this doesn’t become Paranormal Activity all over again – where things are dragged out for far too long in the interest of squeezing out as much money from the property as possible.

After all, the reception to The Last Key was pretty frosty, with our resident horror fiend Matt Donato finding himself less-than-impressed with the pic and writing that “though [it’s] not a terrible film, Insidious: The Last Key fails to live up to the franchise’s high standards.” And frankly, most critics felt the same.

Still, we’re curious to see what Blumhouse can put together with Insidious 5, as there’s certainly potential left in the series, and if you’re eager to revisit The Last Key while we wait to learn more about the next chapter, then you should know that Adam Robitel’s prequel-sequel hits Digital HD first on March 20th before expanding to Blu-ray and DVD two weeks later (pre-order here).
