Though the studio is set to be swallowed up by Disney in the next couple of years, 20th Century Fox is – as far as we know – still looking to move forward with its ongoing slate of X-Men movie spinoffs. One of the more recent ones to be announced is the Kitty Pryde standalone which Deadpool director Tim Miller is helming.
As fans will no doubt know, Kitty has only appeared twice in the film franchise to date. Beginning with 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, Ellen Page played the young mutant with phasing abilities, a role she later reprised for 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. And if the actress gets her way, she might just be back for the character’s solo outing.
While speaking to CinemaBlend, Page revealed that she “loved” being part of the X-Men franchise and had always wished that she could have done more with the mutant.
“I loved playing Kitty Pryde, and I think one of the things I always felt was I wish I could have done more. My experience in the films wasn’t necessarily that extensive and she is such a great character. I don’t know anything about the movie to be honest with you, but yeah, of course, that’s something I’d love to do, but I don’t know.”
The opinion that Page should have got more to do in the movies is probably one shared by most. After all, Kitty Pryde is arguably one of the biggest fan favourite X-Men characters in the comic books, but Page’s version was only granted a supporting turn in The Last Stand and then filled little more than an extended cameo in Days of Future Past.
That said, we shouldn’t think Fox is looking to bring Page back to play Kitty. With the timeline of the original movies having been wiped out by the time-travelling in Future Past, it’s likely that Tim Miller’s film will reboot the character with the studio probably searching for a younger actress to take the role. Chalk that up as speculation for now, though, as hardly anything has been revealed about the project so far.
