Marvel Fans Launch Petition Calling For Black Panther Netflix Series

Black Panther on Netflix? That's the demand from a vocal pocket of Marvel fans, who have launched a Change.org petition asking the Powers That Be to expand Wakanda onto Netflix.

Black Panther…on Netflix?

That’s the end-goal driving Eric Hamilton’s Change.org petition, which calls for a brand new Netflix series set within the isolated utopia of Wakanda. It’s collected just over 4,000 signatures at the time of writing, and Hamilton hopes to convince the Powers That Be that a Marvel-backed TV series would help expand Black Panther‘s Afrocentric lore onto the small screen, where it would presumably join the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones – even if it’s not explicitly connected to either.

Here’s the gist of Eric Hamilton’s petition:

Telling the back story of Wakanda would be a game changer. How did Wakanda become the most technologically advanced country on Earth? From the technology to the artistry coupled with the rich African traditions, the fans demand more. The Black Panther fan base would love to see a Wakanda Series on Netflix. This series would expand the depth of the Marvel universe and we feel Marvel/Disney would enjoy creating and adapting these stories as much as we would love watching them.

And while a Black Panther TV series would work in theory, we’re more inclined to believe that the future of Wakanda belongs on the big screen, given it’s also set to feature quite prominently during Avengers: Infinity War. To play devil’s advocate, perhaps a spinoff show dedicated to the Dora Milaje will take off? Or how about a TV drama that plunges into the history of Wakanda during the time of King T’Chaka’s reign? Whatever the outcome, T’Challa’s playground is a rich treasure trove of stories, and we simply can’t wait to return.

Back in the realm of reality, Black Panther continues to reign supreme. Buoyed by stellar reviews and a tremendous amount of goodwill, the Ryan Coogler-directed pic earned an estimated $108 million in its sophomore frame, placing it on course to crack $1 billion – thereby joining the likes of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Avengers – in the coming weeks.
