The Internet Is Rooting For Elsa To Get A Girlfriend In Frozen 2

Disney's in-development Frozen sequel may well give Elsa a girlfriend, and director Jennifer Lee is certainly fond of the possibility.

Ever since #GiveElsaAGirlfriend began trending in 2016, the Internet has truly rallied behind the idea of a lesbian romance being woven into the fabric of Frozen 2.

And now, thanks to a new interview with The Huffington Post, director Jennifer Lee has weighed in on the possibility of Elsa finding true love. Currently in the midst of promoting her live-action rendition of A Wrinkle in Time, Lee is due to spearhead development on Frozen 2 sometime this year ahead of the sequel’s planned launch in 2019.

But when it comes to Elsa, in particular, the director refuses to rule out the possibility of a gay romance, and noted that the Frozen team is considering all options for the animated sequel.

I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film ― that it’s creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people. It means the world to us that we’re part of these conversations.

It’s by no means official – not yet, at least – but fans can at least take solace in the fact that Jennifer Lee and her creative team have adopted a pragmatic approach to Disney’s Snow Queen.

Where we’re going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we’re really conscientious about these things. For me … Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us. I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.

One thing’s for sure: Idina Menzel, the voice behind Elsa, is certainly a fan of the idea, having publically endorsed the notion of a female love interest via Twitter. Disney, are you listening?

Frozen 2 will cast a spell over theaters on November 27th, 2019 – with or without that mooted lesbian romance.
