Josh Gad in The Batman

More Evidence Suggests Josh Gad’s Penguin Is Headed For The Batman

Beauty and the Beast star Josh Gad has once again fueled rumors of his alleged involvement in The Batman, Matt Reeves' standalone pic that's still incubating in development.

Long before Jake Gyllenhaal and Jon Hamm became linked with The Batman, Beauty and the Beast star Josh Gad was the hot-tipped favorite to join Warner’s in-development spinoff, where he would presumably play the part of Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot – better known to you, I and the people of Gotham City as The Penguin.

In fact, it was through his own campaigning that Gad emerged as an early frontrunner for the role, though Warner Bros. and the film’s director, Matt Reeves, refuse to be drawn on speculation…for now.

Be that as it may, and despite claims to the contrary, The Batman is still gestating in development under the watchful eye of Reeves, who is said to have Nolan-era control over the DCEU spinoff. It’s yet to begin filming, mind you, as Aquaman, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 2 have taken precedence for Warner.

But when Reeves took to Twitter to debunk the latest spell of Batman-related rumors, Josh Gad simply couldn’t help but chime in…

So, what do you think? More evidence to suggest that Josh Gad is bound for the DC Extended Universe? Or an innocent (and indeed innocuous!) tweet about The Batman?

One way or another, there’s still no firm release window for Matt Reeves’ solo flick as of this writing, so it looks certain that we’ll be dealing with speculation in the weeks (months?) to come.
