Infinity War: Karen Gillan Underestimated Nebula’s Importance To The MCU

Via Screen Rant, Avengers: Infinity War actress Karen Gillan has conceded that she initially underestimated Nebula's importance to the wider MCU.

If there’s one Marvel character who has grown in importance and stature since their debut, it’s Nebula.

Four years ago, Karen Gillan’s blue-skinned space oddity was introduced as little more than a sneering pawn who served under Ronan the Accuser – and, by effect, Thanos – but with two Guardians movies already under her belt, the actress is now eagerly anticipating Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel.

As a matter of fact, as Gillan conceded to Screen Rant, she was pleasantly surprised by the ways in which Nebula’s MCU journey has evolved since James Gunn’s original Guardians of the Galaxy movie. And by the looks of it, things are just getting started.

I had no idea that this was where the character was going. I genuinely signed onto the role thinking it was eight days of filming and then I was going to die in the first Guardians.

She continued:

Three movies later and there’s three more to come out it’s, like, crazy. It’s funny because I read the Infinity Gauntlet, which is what the new Avengers films are based on, as research for my character because it’s her sort of biggest moment within the Marvel comic book world, and then to find out they’re making a double-bill feature based on that, I was just so excited actually because Nebula gets some really cool stuff.

Nebula’s continued importance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has led many to theorize that Karen Gillan’s anti-hero will be the one to kill Thanos, thereby enacting her revenge. There’s clearly no love lost between the galactic duo, so it’ll be interesting to discover whether Joe and Anthony Russo have taken Nebula’s arc into consideration when writing the Mad Titan’s final moments.

Expect Avengers: Infinity War to open worldwide on April 27th.
