Brie Larson Captain Marvel

New Captain Marvel Set Photos Offer First Look At Jude Law

With production on Captain Marvel now underway, today brings forth our first look at Jude Law on set, shooting some scenes with Brie Larson.

As you surely know by this point, Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) has joined Captain Marvel as Doctor Walter Lawson (AKA Mar-Vell). He is, in a nutshell, the mentor figure for Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), who is imbued with superhuman strength, energy projection, and flight soon after her DNA is infused with that of an extra-terrestrial. Now that’s what I call a close encounter.

Indeed, those familiar with Marvel Comics will know all too well that Doctor Walter Lawson originally held the title of Captain Marvel, though it’s unclear if that lore will be woven into the fabric of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s solo movie. In fact, there’s still quite a bit we don’t know about the 2019 pic just yet, but with production now underway, we expect further details to start surfacing in the not too distant future.

Until then, however, we’re continuing to see a steady stream of set photos, with the latest batch arriving today. And while they aren’t terribly revealing or notable, they do provide our first look at Law. Unfortunately, we can’t really see his costume, nor can we be sure that this is how he’ll actually appear in the film, but now that he’s on set, we’ll surely be getting more snaps of him in the weeks to come.

While we may not know much about Law’s role at the moment, we have been told to expect a funny, fearless and kick-ass new addition to the Marvel universe when it comes to Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, as the film’s scribe, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, recently said the following:

We really were bringing so much of what was already in the comics onto the screen, it felt like, in terms of the amazing character who’s so funny and sassy and talks back, and she’s fearless. I love that Carol Danvers is so funny. She has a blast when she kicks ass. Those comics are amazing! It’s an amazing world and sandbox to play in. You’re working with incredible creative people, every day. I had a total dream experience.

Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck of Mississippi Grind, has been slated for March 6th, 2019, which is smack bang in the middle of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, two films that seemingly have less in common than we’ve been led to believe.
