Bucky Barnes and Captain America

Bucky’s Infinity War Costume Calls Back To His Captain America: The First Avenger Outfit

Some observant fans have noticed that Bucky's costume in Avengers: Infinity War calls back to his Captain America: The First Avenger outfit.

Since his MCU debut in Captain America: The First Avenger, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes has grown into a bona fide fan-favorite, particularly after his villainous turn in the really rather excellent Winter Soldier. And while Marvel comic book readers believe it’s only a matter of time before Barnes assumes the Captain America title, we still have no confirmation on if that’ll indeed happen. What we can tell you, though, is that the character will be receiving an upgraded arm for his next big screen appearance, which will come in Avengers: Infinity War.

As you’ll surely remember, Captain America: Civil War saw Iron Man destroy Bucky’s cyborg arm. We knew he wouldn’t be running around IW missing a limb though and sure enough, the film’s first trailer featured him with both arms in tact. But that won’t be the only change in appearance that the character will see, as he’s also getting a new costume, one which seemingly calls back to his outfit from The First Avenger.

As you can see in the image in the gallery below, what Sebastian Stan’s fan favorite is wearing here is a clear nod to what we saw him in when he fought alongside Cap as part of the Howling Commandos back in WWII. There, he had on a navy overcoat with brown pants and boots.

For Infinity War, meanwhile, his bottom half looks almost the same, while the coat he’s wearing is pretty close in color to the one from The First Avenger. Sure, there may not be anything terribly significant about this, but it’s a nice little nod all the same – especially for those who’ve been with the MCU since the start.

He’s been bent, bruised, broken and battered to within an inch of his life, but come April, Bucky Barnes will receive a new lease of life – quite literally – which is just as well considering Thanos and his Black Order are now looming on the horizon and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will need all the help they can get.

Speaking of which, as was revealed in last week’s media dump, Sebastian Stan’s Avenger will be charging into battle alongside T’Challa, and that golden arm will likely come in handy when it comes to battling the many Outriders bearing down on Wakanda. Expect Avengers: Infinity War to zoom into theaters on April 27th.
