Something we’re able to make out about Avengers: Infinity War by putting together different clips and shots featured in the trailers so far is that Scarlet Witch and Vision will run into danger when they encounter the Black Order, Thanos’ elite squad of assassins, during the movie. Now, thanks to a new feature from Empire Magazine, we know how the heroes escape this perilous situation.
In the magazine’s visit to the set of the movie in Edinburgh, Empire witnessed a scene being filmed where Wanda Maximoff and the heroic android are cornered by mo-cap actors, who we now know are Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive. Things look bad for the pair, too, until Captain America, Black Widow and Falcon appear out of nowhere to lend them a hand and save the day.
This isn’t too surprising if you’ve seen the first trailer for Infinity War. It features a snippet of this sequence, showing Proxima Midnight throwing her spear into the dark. Steve Rogers steps out of the shadows, however, having caught the spear in mid-air. We then cut to Scarlet Witch, who’s relieved to see him.
Empire reveals that this action sequence will be “brutal” and won’t feature much dialogue. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo made that creative decision as a way to give the scene a “horror film” vibe, as Anthony puts it.
“We structured that scene more like a horror film. We try to give each sequence in the film a slightly different tone and concept, based on the characters driving that sequence.”
This scene is also where that moment of the Black Order attempting to pry the Mind Stone from Vision’s head comes from. We know that this close call leads Cap to make the decision to hide Vision in Wakanda for safe-keeping, which means Black Panther’s country becomes the setting for the big final battle of the movie in the third act.
Despite all the trouble surrounding them, it sounds like Scarlet Witch and Vision will still find time to develop a romantic connection during Infinity War. Elizabeth Olsen confirmed as much when she told the crowd at Chicago’s Wizard Comic-Con that, “I think it’s safe to say that we now get to explore that part of the comic book.”
Avengers: Infinity War hits cinemas on April 27th.
