Long before Brie Larson of Kong: Skull Island and the Oscar-winning Room clinched the coveted role of Carol Danvers, the Internet became fixated on rumors and hushed whispers linking Emily Blunt with Captain Marvel.
The Edge of Tomorrow and soon-to-be Mary Poppins star spoke to Screen Crush about her new thriller, A Quiet Place, which looks set to cast a spell over horror fans with its unique premise – essentially, John Krasinski’s feature film cranks up the tension by turning down the volume.
And it was here where Blunt revealed that, contrary to popular belief, she was never actually in the running for the Captain Marvel gig, telling Screen Crush:
Oh, no, nobody ever called me about it. [Laughs] It was all untrue!
That’s not to say that Emily Blunt will never get the chance to play a superhero; in fact, she believes Mary Poppins fits the bill, what with her magical kindness and trusty umbrella.
I mean, I think Mary Poppins is a superhero, so I’ll just say that she’s my superhero. Yeah, I think I’ve fulfilled that. I’ll say it’s her. Listen, she can fly, she has superpowers, she’s magical. I’ll just go with Mary Poppins.
Mary Poppins Returns has been scheduled for a release on December 25th, and all signs point to another mega-hit for Disney. That said, even if Rob Marshall’s sequel succumbs to mediocrity – unlikely, but possible – it’ll still make history in its own little way this Christmas, by which point it’ll have the longest gap between live-action sequels at 54 years.
On the MCU front, Captain Marvel is expected to follow Infinity War and Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man sequel next March, before Brie Larson’s costumed crusader buddies up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for the so-far untitled Avengers 4.
