Production on Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman 2 is expected to commence on May 28th in the UK – four weeks earlier than initially expected – ahead of its planned release in 2019. Following that, June will see the film move across the pond to Washington, D.C. to complete its shoot.

And so, with things now heating up as the pic approaches its production start date, the casting spree has begun. Hot on the heels of Kristen Wiig joining as Cheetah, the villain of the sequel, Variety now brings word that Narcos and Kingsman: The Golden Circle star Pedro Pascal has signed on for what’s being described as a “key role.” Further details weren’t disclosed at the time of writing, but given that the actor’s quite in demand these days, we imagine it’ll be a big, meaty part. Or at least, we hope it is.

Speculation has already begun as fans discuss who he may be playing, but we don’t expect to learn anything more for a while. What we can tell you in the meantime, though, is that both Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot are back on board as director and lead star, respectively.

Story-wise, the titular hero’s second solo adventure – and her first since the wholly forgettable Justice League team-up movie – will be set during the height of the Cold War (i.e. the 1980s), indicating that Jenkins and her team plan to trade trench warfare for subterfuge and nuclear paranoia.

Said to be imbued with all of the wisdom, wonder, and grace that made the original so special, Wonder Woman 2 has been slated for a release on November 1st, 2019 – far, far away from the launch of J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Episode IX.
