Though it may err on the side of hyperbole, there’s never been a movie quite like Avengers: Infinity War.
Its all-star cast (22 Marvel heroes!) and sprawling story ought to be exclusive to the world of comic books, where big-name crossovers are commonplace. Leave it to Marvel Studios, then, to rewrite the rulebook and create one of the most audacious and indeed successful film universes in the history of film universes.
So whereas rival studios have struggled to maintain a cohesive vision in the face of cute references and post-credits cameos, Marvel’s decision to build its MCU from the ground up has resulted in a cinematic crossover that is, quite frankly, unprecedented in its scale and mind-numbing scope.
And with exactly four weeks to go until D-day, Marvel has dropped two international posters for Avengers: Infinity War (one Chinese; one Japanese) that feature old friends and new allies.
From the Guardians of the Galaxy to the one-eyed Thor, the bearded Steve Rogers to the blonde Black Widow, this is another spectacular showcase of what’s to come, even if Clint Barton (AKA Hawkeye) once again finds himself wallowing away on the sidelines.
That’s not to say he doesn’t feature in Avengers: Infinity War whatsoever – far from it, in fact, after directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently confirmed that Jeremy Renner’s sharpshooter will be shipped off on his own adventure next month. But as time wears on, we’re beginning to think that Hawkeye’s big moment has been saved for the so-far untitled Avengers 4.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Infinity War reaches theaters on April 27th – exactly four weeks from today, not that we’re counting or anything…
