Though we’re still several months out from the premiere of Fallen Kingdom, Universal has already announced Jurassic World 3 for release on June 11th, 2021.

It’s the third and presumably final chapter in the studio’s rebooted saga, and it has Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising) on script duties. She’ll be working from a treatment penned by Derek Connolly and Jurassic World‘s Colin Trevorrow, who was once attached to helm Star Wars: Episode IX for Disney before ultimately handing over the keys to J.J. Abrams (The Force Awakens) due to creative differences.

It seems that his departure from that galaxy far, far away has freed up his schedule, though, as EW is reporting today that Trevorrow will return to direct the third installment in the trilogy, which tells us that Fallen Kingdom helmer Juan Antonio Bayona won’t be back for more. Whether that’s due to his own choosing or the studio’s we don’t know, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

“It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to keep our storytelling fresh and alive,” said Trevorrow in a statement. “I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty J.A. has brought to Fallen Kingdom, and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy.”

Though the director may not have been a good fit for Star Wars, he’s certainly proven himself when it comes to dinosaurs. Jurassic World grossed $1.67 billion back in 2015 and was hugely successful with both audiences and critics. As such, fans can rest easy knowing that the final chapter’s in good hands and we can’t wait to see what else the franchise has in store for us.

Jurassic World 3 will put a bow on Universal’s dino saga – for now, at least – on June 11th, 2021. But before then, we have Fallen Kingdom to look forward to, which will be here on June 22nd of this year.
