The indie cult-themed drama Martha Marcy May Marlene released two intriguing trailers and two new posters today, gearing up for its limited theatrical release on October 21st. The film received positive reviews when it made an appearance at Sundance, and these eerily quiet trailers tease at a disturbing drama.
Elizabeth Olsen (the younger sister of the famous twins) gave a performance that critics raved about at Sundance, playing a young woman with terrible memories and growing paranoia after escaping from a cult. Writer/director Sean Durkin deals with some delicate issues as he examines the inner workings of cults, and if the trailers are any indication, the film will have a creeping-up-your-skin atmosphere and a slow-burn intensity.
EW released the poster and The Film Stage ran the short trailers; check them out below and tell us what you think.
Martha Marcy May Marlene co-stars John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone), Sarah Paulson, Hugh Dancy and Brady Corbet.
