A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place Scores A Massive $50 Million Opening Weekend

Riding a huge wave of positive reviews and excellent word of mouth, Paramount Pictures' A Quiet Place made some serious noise at the box office this weekend, grabbing a very respectable $50 million on home turf while also pulling in $21 million across the pond, bringing it a grand total of $71 million. With a budget of just $17 million, the studio has made some serious dough on the pic and we imagine it'll be just a matter of time before a sequel is announced, giving Paramount a bankable new horror franchise.

Riding a huge wave of positive reviews and excellent word of mouth – all of which is definitely deserved – Paramount Pictures’ A Quiet Place made some serious noise at the box office this weekend.

The numbers are now in and from what we understand, it grabbed a very respectable $50 million on home turf while also pulling in $21 million across the pond, bringing it to a grand total of $71 million. With a budget of just $17 million, the studio has already made some serious dough on the pic and we imagine it’ll only be a matter of time before a sequel is announced, giving Paramount a bankable new franchise.

In fact, the writers already have some ideas for where a second outing could go, with Scott Beck telling MovieWeb the following:

“We even have some of the set-pieces already written for it. In a sense, that’s what you have to base it around. You have to figure out, what is the worst possible situation to put your characters in and go from there.”

On whether we can expect to see the same characters again, he said:

“I think you could continue down one path that’s very obvious, or you could spin off into a completely unexpected direction. Which is certainly always interesting for us. The uncharted territory of filmmaking is always where you find the best inspiration.”

Of course, the film achieving so much success is hardly surprising. As we mentioned above, the buzz surrounding A Quiet Place at the moment is palpable, with many people hailing it as one of the genre’s finest efforts in some time – a sentiment we agree with wholeheartedly. It’s a breath of fresh air, too, with its simple yet unique premise – if they hear you, they hunt you – and understated terror that doesn’t rely on jump scares and cheap tricks to create an intense, horrifying experience that’ll have you glued to your seat.

Called a “ruthlessly intelligent creature feature that’s as original as it is scary” by RT’s critic consensus, A Quiet Place follows parents Evelyn (Blunt) and Lee Abbott (Krasinski) who must protect their children from horrific creatures that hunt by sound. If you’ve read our review, you’ll know that we absolutely loved it and we highly recommend you check it out if you haven’t done so already.
