Naturally, then, this is a threat that all of the superheroes have an interest in averting, but is there one in particular who has the strongest urge to destroy Josh Brolin’s purple alien overlord? Though they might not necessarily be the leader of the assembled heroes, is there someone who could have the biggest burning desire to save the Earth from the most dire situation it’s ever faced?

While speaking with The Telegraph India, Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have confirmed that, yes, there is one specific hero who could be described as having the strongest connection to Thanos in terms of wanting to bring him down. As fans might be able to guess, it’s Tony Stark AKA Iron Man.

“It’s all the heroes. I think he has the most specific connection to Tony because Tony is a futurist, and he has predicted a threat like Thanos. It’s lived in his brain even though he couldn’t name it. Tony is the most desperately driven, down to the core, to react against something like Thanos, although all the heroes will face a threat, no matter who it is or where it comes from. But I think this is intrinsic to Tony’s psychology, and because Tony started it all with Iron Man, he has a special connection to the threat that’s facing him.”

What Russo is referring to is Tony’s quest to find a way to protect Earth against future invasions that he’s embarked on over the past few movies. Back in Avengers: Age of Ultron, for example, he created Ultron in an attempt to bring about “peace in our time,” though that wildly backfired when the A.I. went evil.

In Captain America: Civil War, he then championed government oversight of the Avengers in the hopes of putting up a united front against any threats to come. Again, that didn’t go as planned, either, as it only resulted in the team splitting up. Now that threat he predicted is here and Tony will find he’s totally unprepared for it.

We’ll get to see if Iron Man, the Avengers, the Guardians and everyone else can save the day when Avengers: Infinity War smashes into cinemas on April 27th.
