From Luc Besson, the man who was largely responsible for films like The Transporter, District B13 and The Professional, comes The Lady, a political drama. And yes, we are being 100% serious.
It’s a major departure for the director/producer but after watching the brief teaser released yesterday, I’m remaining hopeful. The film follows Burmese pro-democracy politician and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi.
Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis, will take the starring roles in what looks to be a rather compelling and touching film, especially for a guy like Besson. The preview below doesn’t show off a whole lot but what is shown here looks fairly interesting. I’m not familiar with Aung San Suu Kyi but her story does look like something worth watching.
While I personally would rather see Besson give us something in the same vein as any of those above mentioned films, I’ll give The Lady a fair chance. It may not be exactly the type of film that he’s known for but if he wants to try something different than so be it. He hasn’t let me down thus far and I’m sure The Lady will be another great piece of work from the always entertaining director.
