Jason Blum Praises First Cut Of Halloween Sequel

Blumhouse head Jason Blum has watched the first cut of David Gordon Green's Halloween, and he's over the moon at seeing Laurie Strode and Michael Myers properly reunited.

Halloween is one of the most iconic franchises in horror history, though the last few entries have, to put it bluntly, been a bit rubbish. Everyone’s hoping that’s going to change with Blumhouse’s upcoming sequel though, which reunites Michael Myers with his most famous adversary, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode. With a script by Danny McBride and direction by David Gordon Green, hopes are high that this film – which is intended to be a direct follow-up to the John Carpenter original and will ignore the subsequent movies – will reinvigorate the franchise.

One person who’s hoping harder than most is Blumhouse head honcho James Blum, who’s not just putting up the money for the pic, but is a famously devoted fan of horror. Now, in an interview with Digital Spy, he’s revealed he’s seen the first cut of the movie and is feeling confident about it.

“I feel really good about it, I saw a cut of it two nights ago. I think David did a terrific job. He did everything I hoped he would do which is respect the DNA of the franchise and bring something totally new to it and we’re really very very excited for people to see it.”

Now, I know what you’re thinking. He’s the producer and hardly likely to say that it’s terrible. But things are looking pretty rosy for this project right now, especially since they announced that John Carpenter himself is dusting off the synthesizers and is set to score it. Blum got to meet him, too, and told Digital Spy this sweet anecdote:

The most fun I had with [Carpenter] is I brought him to the set, and I was on the set with him and Jamie Lee Curtis, and boy that was pretty special, pretty amazing. It was a proper reunion.

With the horror genre critically and financially ascendant, it’s the perfect time for Michael Myers to return and show these young upstarts what true terror really is. I’m sure we’ll see a teaser trailer before too long, as well, as the film is scheduled for a full release on – you guessed it – Halloween 2018 (well, October 19th).
