The Merc Slips Into An X-Men T-Shirt In Latest Deadpool 2 Image

Wade Wilson dons an X-Men T-shirt (X-Shirt?) in the latest action shot for Deadpool 2, which comes to us by way of Empire Magazine.

Though Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently adorning the cover of Empire’s new issue (see here), there’s still ample room for the Merc With a Mouth and his half-assed attempt at an X-Men costume.

Pictured alongside Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, this all-new Deadpool 2 action shot finds Wade Wilson in full battle gear as he approaches a particularly dangerous, fire-wielding mutant. Oh, and he’s wearing a yellow X-Men vest, presumably as a means of mocking Negasonic Teenage Warhead, who can be seen in full X-gear for the very first time.

Meanwhile, that firey newcomer is played by none other than Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople), who is of particular interest to Cable, the one-armed bandit who has traveled through time to find and stop Dennison’s character in his tracks. Perhaps he’s responsible for some future atrocity that the Merc must prevent? Who knows, but it seems increasingly likely that he’ll be playing Russell Collins, the gifted teen otherwise known as Firefist. See for yourself:

We know from previous trailers that the Merc will spend much of Deadpool 2 trying to assemble the X-Force, thereby laying the groundwork quite nicely for Drew Goddard’s brewing team-up movie. With that in mind, we’re inclined to believe that Julian Dennison’s character will hang around for two or three X-Men movies beyond 2018, regardless of who he actually is.

Ditto for Josh Brolin (Cable) and Zazie Beetz (Domino), while the David Leitch-directed sequel has also found room in its ranks for Terry Crews, Shioli Kutsuna, and It star Bill Skarsgård, who is perhaps best known for his unforgettable performance as Pennywise, the sewer-dwelling clown of Derry, Maine.

Deadpool 2, meanwhile, will officially herald the Merc’s second coming on May 18th.
