In honor of Deadpool 2's final trailer, Fandango has teamed with the Merc's original creator, Rob Liefeld, to produce a really rather remarkable new poster.

As the man responsible for creating the Merc With a Mouth – an achievement he shares with comic book scribe Fabian Nicieza – Rob Liefeld knows a thing or two about what makes Wade Wilson tick.

It’s only fitting, then, that Liefeld gets the chance to deliver an incredible piece of artwork for Deadpool 2, one which comes to us by way of Fandango to mark the fact that, yes, tickets for this year’s raunchiest sequel are now on sale.

Produced alongside his frequent collaborator Mike Capprotti, Rob Liefeld identified the inspiration behind this particular poster (spoilers: it’s “New Mutants #98”), before heralding the addition of Zazie Beetz’s Domino to the wild world of Deadpool 2.

The cover to New Mutants #98 has become an iconic image, and it is the comic that introduced Deadpool and Domino to the world. New Mutants #98 has become a key image in the comic book pantheon, so I thought it would be great to pay homage with the movie cast… and I gotta be honest, man – it turned out better than I imagined!

Also starring Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Leslie Uggams, Stefan Kapicic, and Karan Soni, it’s looking increasingly likely that Deadpool 2 will serve as a springboard for Drew Goddard’s gestating X-Force movie. Though this being a Deadpool film, it’s probably best to expect the unexpected.

From the studio that killed Wolverine comes…Deadpool 2! And it’ll be with us on May 18th. Elsewhere on the news cycle, it’s being reported that Disney and 20th Century Fox have brokered a deal so that Dark Phoenix becomes the final X-Men movie to release under Fox early next year – remember, Simon Kinberg’s 90s-set prequel was recently postponed to February 14th, 2019, the date once occupied by Gambit.
