Less than a week from now, many of us will have finally seen Avengers: Infinity War, the mega-sized epic that serves as the culmination of everything the Marvel Cinematic Universe had built toward for the past ten years. Of course, we’re all looking forward to seeing more of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes up on the big screen than ever before, but there are those familiar faces that keep us coming back. In fact, one of them has even been called “the ambassador to the MCU” by a number of people because not only is he one of the biggest names in Hollywood, but he was also there when this whole thing kicked off.

Naturally, we’re talking about Robert Downey Jr., who’s yet to vacate the role of Tony Stark since bringing him to the masses with the first Iron Man picture back in 2008. And with each subsequent appearance, we’ve seen his character evolve both as a person and as a hero – and he’s gotten more than his share of sweet upgraded armors along the way.

When recently speaking at a press junket in Singapore, Infinity War co-director Joe Russo couldn’t help but offer high praise for Downey, saying the following:

“Robert’s fantastic. Robert is really focused and he works incredibly hard. There’s a reason he’s the biggest movie star in the world: he’s put in the work. He’s awesome to have on set.”

Knowing that Downey infuses a bit of his own personality into his onscreen performance, I imagine that he’s indeed a blast to have on set. Really, before his first cinematic turn as the character, Iron Man had been thought of as being more serious, save for what Mark Millar’s The Ultimates gave us. But now, it’s pretty hard to imagine Stark without the veteran actor’s fingerprints all over him, wouldn’t you say?

Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on April 27.
