Deadpool 2 On Track To Become Fandango’s Biggest R-Rated Advance Ticket Seller

The David Leitch-directed Deadpool 2 is currently tracking towards becoming Fandango's highest grossing R-rated advance ticket seller.

Earlier this week, tickets to the highly anticipated follow-up to Wade Wilson’s big screen debut in 2016 went on sale, and suffice it to say, the fandom is ablaze with excitement for Deadpool 2.

The Merc with a Mouth had no problem shellacking Regal Cinemas’ one day advance ticket sales record for an R-rated feature, setting the benchmark within a four hour window. The David Leitch-directed sequel trounced the previous record holder by a ratio of 2:1, and now, Ryan Reynolds’ foul mouthed mutant has yet another record in his crosshairs.

And that’s because Deadpool 2 is on track to seize Fandango’s advance ticket sales record for an R-rated feature from its current holder, Fifty Shades of Grey. As it stands, the pic has the third highest advance ticket sales of 2018, according to the company, behind only Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther.

Despite being sandwiched between the releases of Solo: A Star Wars Story and the aforementioned Infinity War, something that the Merc with a Mouth is keenly aware of, according to director David Leitch, and ready to exploit, Ryan Reynolds’ avocado-faced superhero doesn’t appear to be suffering at the box office like many predicted. Making it a distinct possibility that the film could perform akin to its predecessor’s $130 million domestic opening, a once bizarre notion that may not be so insane after all.

Deadpool 2 is scheduled for release on May 18th, three weeks removed from Avengers: Infinity War and a mere seven days before Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters. It’ll see Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapcic (Colossus), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), and T.J. Miller (Weasel) reprise their roles alongside franchise newcomers Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz, who will suit up as Cable and Domino, respectively.
