Bucky Barnes and Captain America

Bucky Succeeding Steve Rogers As Captain America Is A Waste, Says Infinity War Writer

Turns out Avengers: Infinity War scribe Christopher Markus isn't all that fussed on the possibility of Bucky Barnes becoming the next Captain America.

Amid news that Chris Evans has one eye on the exit door (again), Avengers: Infinity War scribe Christopher Markus has weighed in on the possibility that Bucky Barnes may one day succeed his old pal Steve Rogers to become the next Captain America. And it turns out he’s not all that fussed on the idea.

As any Marvel Comics enthusiast will tell you, the Winter Soldier ultimately picked up the shield to become the Sentinel of Liberty soon after Steve Rogers slipped off the grid – a path which led him towards Nomad, the lone wolf known for operating in that morally grey area between good and evil.

For the MCU, things are a little different. For one, the man once known as the Winter Soldier has shed all ties to HYRDA to become the White Wolf – no thanks to the meticulous work of Black Panther‘s Shuri – thereby bestowing a blank slate upon Sebastian Stan’s anti-hero in time for Avengers: Infinity War. But when it comes to the possibility of Barnes taking on the mantle of Captain America, Markus has some reservations:

I will say, just on a fan level, I think Winter Soldier’s so awesome that I’m always like, why are you wasting Winter Soldier and putting him in like Captain America outfit? You had two heroes now you got one.

And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Sam Wilson (AKA Falcon), Steve’s close ally and friend who has emerged as the other big candidate to replace Chris Evans’ Avenger when the time comes – regardless of whether it’s prompted by Cap’s death, or the actor’s decision to leave the MCU once his contract has expired.

Because with only four days left until the release of Avengers: Infinity War, it shouldn’t be too long before we have some firm answers for you to peruse. Watch this space for more.
