Watch as the Merc With a Mouth gets cut down to size in the all-new IMAX promo for Deadpool 2. Tickets for the May release are now on sale, too.

Deadpool isn’t known for his run-of-the-mill campaigns – be it the cartoonish IMAX poster (see below) or the cheeky teaser trailers that spend more time lampooning comic book movies than they do actually promoting Deadpool 2, the Merc With a Mouth continues to entertain and delight his fans with each passing promo. And the latest is no exception.

So whereas most major movie studios regale their target audience about the ways in which IMAX enhances the experience (26 percent more screen real estate!), Wade Wilson has volunteered to educate his viewers about the expanded, larger-than-life IMAX 1.9:1 aspect ratio. Only this time, things don’t exactly go according to plan.

Indeed, up above you’ll see the moment when Ryan Reynolds’ gun-toting vigilante is brought down to size – all the way down to mini-Deadpool, before he walks off-screen and allows the real action to begin. Granted, the subsequent sizzle reel contains much of the same footage that was featured in Deadpool 2‘s final trailer when it aired earlier this month. But it’s an exciting reminder of what’s to come nonetheless.

The question, really, is whether Deadpool 2 stands a chance of superseding the original’s haul of $789 million to become one of the most successful R-rated movies of all time. It’s already well on its way, after Fandango confirmed that David Leitch’s superhero sequel is on course to become the company’s biggest advance ticket seller in the R-rated department.

Said to include one or two nods to Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story – such is Wade Wilson’s way – along with deep-seated ties to the X-Men universe, Fox’s Deadpool sequel will light up theaters on May 18th – a full six weeks earlier than initially expected.
