Kevin Feige Reveals His Favorite MCU Post-Credits Scenes

One much-loved hallmark of Marvel Studios films are the post-credits scenes. These either tease or reveal an upcoming project or just give us a great comedic coda to the movie. In fact, it’s a given that, when the credits start rolling on any MCU effort, you can immediately tell who the dedicated fans in the audience are when they sit through a couple of hundred digital FX artists in the hope of one more morsel of superhero action.

Among the many, many post-credits scenes, though, which are the best? That’s up for debate, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has now revealed in an interview with EW which are his personal favorites:

“I love them all for so many different reasons. The Nick Fury one obviously because it was the first. Two things that have happened as we have continued making our MCU movies is, I remember Stan Lee cameos, there would be a couple of people in the theater who would clap, and then there would be a couple more, and now every single person in the theater knows Stan and recognizes Stan.

It was the same thing [with credits]: Sometimes there would be three people left in the theater for a tag, and now it’s like, it varies, but it could be three-quarters of a theater staying, or as people start to leave, they’ll go, “Where are you going?” which I find very entertaining. So I would say the Fury one because it was our first. We planted our flag on that. And the shawarma one just because we pulled it off. [Laughs] It felt so perfect.”

I distinctly remember getting up to leave Iron Man back in 2008, when my buddy said he’d heard there was something after the film. Of course, Samuel L. Jackson appeared in full Nick Fury costume and said to Tony, “you think you’re the only superhero in the world? Mr. Stark you’ve become part of a bigger universe … I’m here to talk to you about the Avengers initiative.” Who knew that those simple lines would blossom into so many amazing things over the last ten years, eh?

My personal favorite, however, comes at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, in which we not only get an appearance by ultra-obscure Marvel character Cosmo the Space Dog, but Howard the freakin’ Duck! Widely and deservedly regarded as cinematically radioactive after the nightmarish 1986 movie, him turning up in the MCU seemed extraordinarily unlikely. I’m just glad he’s out there somewhere, as it’s always tickled me that now him and Jessica Jones could theoretically cross paths.
