Avengers: Infinity War Has Already Outstripped Six MCU Movies At Domestic Box Office

Box Office Mojo has crunched the numbers to reveal that Avengers: Infinity War has already outstripped six (!) MCU movies at the domestic box office.

Box office-wise, Avengers: Infinity War is off to a flyer. And we mean that in every sense of the word.

Updated figures have revealed that Infinity War‘s global total has since climbed to $641 million – $258 million of which was collected from North America – making it the biggest opening weekend of all time.

The good news just keeps coming, too, as Joe and Anthony Russo’s blockbuster has already outstripped six MCU movies at the domestic box office. Box Office Mojo (h/t Screen Rant) has crunched the numbers to reveal that, at $258M, Infinity War‘s U.S. bow is higher than the domestic totals of Doctor Strange ($232M), Thor: The Dark World ($206M), Thor ($181M), Ant-Man ($180M), Captain America: The First Avenger ($176M), and, finally, The Incredible Hulk ($134M). Like we said, off to a flyer.

This is all the more impressive when you consider that Avengers: Infinity War was able to set a new global box office record without the help of Russia and China, where Marvel’s crossover is expected to open on May 4th and May 11th, respectively.

China is a notoriously difficult market to crack, so it remains to be seen whether Infinity War can attract much of an audience. Nevertheless, Black Panther‘s $1.3 billion gross is now well within reach, and it’s really only a matter of time before Earth’s Mightiest Heroes leapfrog T’Challa’s standalone pic.

Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters now, and it’ll be interesting to see how the Marvel epic fares during its second weekend. Is $1 billion out of reach? At this rate, there’s really no telling how high Joe and Anthony Russo’s crossover can climb.
