Having indelibly made its impression on the stomach lining of those in attendance at Amazon Studios’ CinemaCon presentation late last week, Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Dario Argento’s Giallo masterpiece, Suspiria, no longer has cinephiles apprehensive about the upcoming reimagining.

In case you missed it, director Guadagnino took to the stage during the studio’s luncheon last week to present an extended clip from his remake of Suspiria. While the footage hasn’t made its way online just yet, we’ve been told that it featured a dancer being meticulously “torn apart” in a flourish of “urine, spittle, and blood,” leaving more than few feeling “disturbed” and “traumatized.”

And while a brief excerpt causing temporary mental instability amongst industry professionals is usually a good omen – at least, for a film like this – there’s no denying that an endorsement from the original Suzy Bannion, actress Jessica Harper, is an even better sign of things to come.

Over on her official Facebook page, Harper recently revealed that she’s watched the movie in its entirety and deemed it “the most brilliantly scary film I have ever seen.” The main protagonist in Dario Argento’s 1977 effort also told us that although Luca Guadagnino’s Academy Award nominee for Best Picture, Call Me By Your Name, “does not prepare you for it,” the pic does throw “into relief the director’s brilliance and versatility…” Excited yet?

For those who haven’t been keeping up, Guadagnino’s Suspiria will centre on Susie Bannion (Dakota Johnson), a ballet dancer who transfers to a prestigious dance academy with a sinister and supernatural history. The reimagining is currently scheduled for a release sometime in Autumn of this year but could premiere on the summer film festival circuit ahead of time if we’re lucky. As always, watch this space for more.
