It’s official: Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War has cleared $300 million at the domestic box office after five days, becoming only the second film to do so after Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Deadline has the scoop, revealing that Joe and Anthony Russo’s super-sized tentpole added an estimated $23.5M on Tuesday – down 5 percent from Monday’s record $24.7M haul – becoming the best Tuesday ever for an MCU title. Indeed, only Black Panther comes close at $20.8M, while yesterday’s domestic gross also marked a new high for the month of May, after Infinity War‘s haul eclipsed that of The Avengers ($17.6M).
Such a feat means the sequel’s North America total now stands at $305.9M for a worldwide cume of $808M. And to think Marvel’s event movie is yet to open in China…
It should be noted that Infinity War‘s Tuesday box office was considerably lower than that of The Force Awakens ($37.3M), which had the advantage of opening at a time when most schools were still closed for Christmas.
Be that as it may, the record-shattering crossover is said to be gearing up for another massive weekend at the global box office. Not only is it expected to grace Russia on May 4th, but analysts expect Infinity War to add another $100M-$125M domestically, in which case its grand total will be within arm’s reach of that coveted billion-dollar milestone.
Mind you, at this rate, it seems Avengers: Infinity War is destined to break $2 billion when all is said and done, becoming only the fourth film to do so after Avatar, Titanic and The Force Awakens.
