Earlier today, Hulu finally disclosed the premiere date for their horror anthology series, Castle Rock. Orbiting around the fictional Maine town created by Stephen King, featured prominently in the author’s canon, including The Dead Zone, Cujo, and, most recently, Revival, the streaming service will make the first three episodes available on Wednesday, July 25th.
The J.J. Abrams-produced series is said to be “an original story that combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works.” It’s got quite the cast attached to it, too, as it sees André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgård, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn play out “an epic saga of darkness and light, on a few square miles of Maine woodland.”
And in response to your question, no, Skarsgård will not be reprising his role as Pennywise from Andy Muschietti’s remake of IT, seeing as the demonic clown lives in Derry, Maine, not Castle Rock.
In addition to the premiere date, Hulu also released a new teaser trailer which you can check out up above. The footage shown doesn’t provide much insight into what the series will be about, aside from the “Master of Horror’s” usual bag of tricks, but the latest Castle Rock promo does amplify the dread and paints a pretty promising picture of what’s to come.
Ever since the remake of IT hauled in $700 million-plus worldwide on a budget of just $35 million, Stephen King’s oeuvre has been partitioned then sold to the highest bidder. Castle Rock is merely the next adaptation in a long line of impending translations, one which will see Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch’s remake of Pet Sematary and Muschietti’s IT: Chapter Two hit theaters in 2019. Let’s just hope that quantity doesn’t affect the quality of these conversions, eh?
