What did we ever do, as a species, to deserve Jordan Peele?
Seemingly out of nowhere, the Get Out director’s follow-up project, entitled Us, unveiled a slew of new details by way of The Hollywood Reporter earlier today. The picture will be Peele’s first since his 2017 horror phenomenon won him the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay earlier this year.
The director will once again be helming from a script which he penned and is set to produce via his Monkeypaw Productions banner with Ian Cooper. Also producing are Sean McKittrick of QC Entertainment and Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions.
Slated for a March 15, 2019 release by Universal, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o is currently in negotiations to star, while Winston Duke, who portrays M’Baku in the MCU, and two-time Golden Globe winner Elisabeth Moss, are circling the project as well.
Details are being kept under wraps, but the pic is believed to pivot on two couples, one white, one black. If a deal is struck, Duke and Nyong’o will play one pair, with Moss playing a part of the other. We don’t know much more than that, but as you can see from the first poster below, Us will be a “new nightmare from the mind of Academy Award Winner Jordan Peele.”
On a production budget of just $4.5 million, Get Out managed to shatter both financial and critical expectations, earning four Academy Award nominations and hauling in an astounding $255 million at the box office worldwide. With the film currently sitting at an unbelievable 99% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, the one question on everyone’s mind is whether or not Jordan Peele’s follow-up, Us, will best his directorial debut. Time will tell, but for now, it certainly has our attention.
