First, let’s go over what we do know about season 4.

So far, we’ve learned that Matt Ryan will reprise his role of John Constantine, this time as a series regular. And since the demonologist will be around on a more permanent basis, he should prove to be an invaluable asset now that a variety of monsters are expected to follow Mallus’ lead by unleashing havoc on the timestream. In other words, the series will soon lean even more toward the supernatural.

Making things even more difficult is that the Waverider crew may very well be betrayed from within. At least, that’s the impression given to us by executive producer and showrunner Phil Klemmer, as he had this to say when recently speaking with TV Line:

“I think we’re ready to maybe have some real betrayal within the ranks of the Legends. Things have gotten really tranquil, so next season I do want the Legends to sort of turn against their own. And I don’t want these to be cosmetic plot shifts, I want them to have consequences that will be lasting and that will affect the DNA of the show.”

Right now, we imagine that many heads are turning toward Mick Rory AKA Heat Wave given his criminal past, but one can only hope the creative minds behind the series spend their summer thinking of less obvious ways to continue the story. Plus, if they really want to give us the sense of lasting consequences, teases regarding returns to be made by Vixen and Rip Hunter shouldn’t be spoken of right after those particular characters were given exits.

Legends of Tomorrow will return to The CW with new episodes sometime this fall.
