Before Solo: A Star Wars Story was even given a name of its own, Alden Ehrenreich and the so-hot-right-now Donald Glover met with their Star Wars ancestors, Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams, to discuss the finer details of Han Solo and Captain Lando Calrissian, respectively.
The former is notoriously testy when it comes to his time spent in a galaxy far, far away – in fact, Ford recently went on record to say that he “couldn’t give a rat’s ass” about passing the blaster on from one generation to the next – but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he wasn’t on-hand to offer some advice to franchise newcomer Alden Ehrenreich who, like Donald Glover, is about to take over one of the most iconic characters in the entire galaxy.
Indeed, while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live (h/t Cinema Blend), Ehrenreich dished on the advice given to him by Ford before production commenced.
He said, ‘If anyone asks, tell them I told you everything you need to know, and that you’re not allowed to say anything.’ Which was great… He was kind of like, ‘Wait, what is it you’re directing? What is this going on?’ Like, he barely knew that it was happening.
Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy was a little more upbeat, stating that Harrison Ford and Alden Ehrenreich’s sit-down proved “invaluable” during the making of Solo. And thankfully, it won’t be too much longer before we see the fruits of Ehrenreich’s labor.
“He gave Alden that kind of insight which was invaluable. There were several times in the course of making the movie where Alden would actually recount some of the things that Harrison had pointed out. I think that was really, really helpful to him.”
